Steorra - Merchandise & Album Cover Design
For my Graphic Design Independent Study, I redesigned an album for Swedish artist Yung Lean, whose punk and grunge-inspired aesthetic served as the visual foundation. My goal was to capture the raw emotion of his music with a unique, bold approach. After researching his previous albums, I developed the concept of Steorra—an Old English word meaning "star," reflecting his frequent space references. I used Procreate and Photoshop to create original illustrations and enhance imagery. I designed a complete album package, including the front, back, and inside panels and a custom album label sticker.
Objectives:
Research & Analysis: Study Yung Lean’s previous albums to identify key visual elements, typefaces, imagery, and color schemes that define his style.
Illustration: Use Procreate to create original artwork that reflects Yung Lean’s unique aesthetic.
Typography: Choose typefaces that align with the artist’s punk and grunge influences while maintaining readability.
Color Theory: Develop a color palette inspired by the artist’s previous works, with an emphasis on tones that evoke the mood of his music.
Brand Consistency: Ensure that the new album design stays true to Yung Lean’s established visual identity while offering a fresh perspective.
Final Design: Produce an album package, including front and back covers, inside panels, and a custom label sticker.
